It’s simple, Dishonored is a 2-in-1 game you can finish either with violence and lots of action sequences, or with discretion, applying stealth strategies to kill your enemies without being seen.

Arkane Studios makes very Dishonored is something else. Arkane Studios makes very interesting games with exceptional mechanics. The chaos system is incredible. First time I ever played I was not interested in the story so much and just killed everybody if they ever saw me, and never really took up the stealth part of the game.

The next time, though, I was more devoted to playing as quietly as possible. Never killed anybody, and always chose the pacifist options. The world changes with everything you do, and it looks gorgeous. The art style is unique and I always recognize it if I see a concept art or a screenshot. The design of the world, missions and the story are simply incredible.

With the steampunk setting we see pretty neat technology and a heavy industrial theme tied to poaching whales which also has a hand in how you tune your powers.

The architecture and character model design has very unique hand painted attributes and compliments the game quite well. This game seems to be heavily inspired by Thief from the early s and in many ways has done an excellent job in keeping its spirit alive. You play as Corvo Attano, the royal bodyguard to Empress Jessamine. You return in time to be able to at least put a stake in the spokes of the plan to over throw the Empress but ultimately fail and the fate of Dunwall is on your shoulders as you restore the government from its Dictator, Hiram Burrows.

From there you will carve a path to revenge or redemption, it is the players choice. You can also ignore all of your powers for a flesh and steel run if that’s what you prefer. Seriously, Dishonored is an amazing game that lets you really get creative with all the weapons and powers you have at your disposal. My only gripe is that they didn’t get Mr. Russell to voice Corvo originally. Very well may be the best money I spent all year on games. The stealth is engaging, the combat is visceral, the story is interesting, the visuals i. I wish I could give it a 10, but there’s minor issues here and there that keep it from being perfect — but it’s definitely above a 9. Despite being a Bethesda title, it is not the “steam-punk Skyrim” many had come to expect. Dishonored goes to the same school as Bioshock and Half Life 2 in that it is a first person shooter with an interesting toolbox of abilities to help you out. The biggest complaint I keep seeing about Dishonored is that people flew through it in under 5 hours.

While this is certainly possible, this actually demonstrates one of the greatest qualities of this game; it plays however you want it to. At the start of each area, you are given an objective, a large area, and your trusty toolbox of supernatural abilities. The game then leaves you to determine the best way to approach your target, and believe me, there are a lot of different ways you can get it done.

In addition, your decision on how to approach each level especially in terms of body count has a very tangible effect on how the rest of the game plays out. If you make a point to run as fast as you can from objective to objective, never stopping to do side quests, explore, or talk to the characters, then I can see how you would come out disappointed at the end.

This is a game the encourages you to stop and think, and the results of a little creativity can leave you feeling like a real badass. Dishonored is not without it’s flaws of course.
